MIDWIFERY CARE

Wild Heart Midwifery provides a quality home birth option for families in the Central Texas area. My midwifery care is tailored to fit you and your family's needs and desires. You will have a supportive midwife from beginning to end that truly listens to you. There is never any mystery to your care, as the goal is to inform you of your choices and options, explain procedures, tests, and results with you, and allow you to be just as much a part of your care as the midwife. You will always be heard and a safe and respectful relationship is my priority.

My fee is ALL INCLUSIVE and includes:

  • Regular prenatal appointments (monthly until 28 weeks, every two weeks from 28-36 weeks, and weekly from 36 weeks until delivery). Even if extra visits are needed to check on you or baby, it's included in your care!

  • Routine lab work. All the standard prenatal and postpartum labs and screenings that you'd get with an OB are provided

  • Continuous care with your midwife

  • Dedicated 24/7 urgent phone line

  • Telephone counseling

  • Anatomy scan ultrasound at 18-22 weeks

  • Labor and Delivery

    • Licensed midwife and fully trained birth assistants to assist you

    • Water birth available

  • Postpartum care for you and baby (immediate postpartum after the birth until discharged from care, home visits to care for you and baby up to 6 weeks postpartum)

  • Vitamin K and erythromycin for your newborn, if desired

  • Antibiotics in labor if needed and desired

  • RhoGAM if needed

  • Full newborn exam at birth

  • Assistance with first latch or pumping if desired

  • Chestfeeding assistance through the postpartum period

  • Newborn screening tests at 24-48 hours and 1-2 weeks

  • CCHD screening for congenital heart defects

  • Postpartum mood screening, assistance, and referrals as necessary

I strive to leave my clients, local families, and all birth better than I found it and provide access to safe, unbiased, quality maternity choices and care!

FINANCIAL INVESTMENT

My all inclusive price is $5500. The only additional costs are if you require non-routine labs or ultrasounds (this is rare) or if you are planning a twin or breech birth with me, since those require additional midwives/birth attendants. If you choose to have a water birth, I will provide the tub and most accessories. You will only be required to supply a potable hose long enough for your home layout and any necessary faucet adapter.

If you are unable to pay in full upfront, I can set you up on a monthly payment plan over the course of your pregnancy. The monthly amount will depend on at what point in your pregnancy you enter care, as your final payment must be paid by the time you reach your due date. I also offer a need-based sliding scale, which requires an application and proof of income to determine eligibility.

I am fully aware that I am not the cheapest midwife in the area. However, I believe that my price adequately reflects the quality of care and attention that you and your baby will receive, while also respecting the time and education that I dedicate to my practice. Additionally, you don't have to worry that there will be other unexpected costs such as labs, ultrasounds, birth tub, and birth kits after beginning your care. My clients understand that this is an investment in their overall wellbeing!

EMERGENCIES & TRANSFERS

I only take on normal, low-risk clients so there is a very low risk for complications. However, I am trained and equipped to handle some of the more likely scenarios that may come up, such as baby needing help transitioning to life outside of the womb and postpartum hemorrhage. I am CPR and NRP certified, carry oxygen, IV supplies and fluids, anti-hemorrhagic medications, and suturing equipment to repair tears if necessary.

I am trained to immediately recognize when things start to deviate from normal. Using my knowledge, training, and experience, I may try a few professional "tricks" to get things back on course but if those don't work, I won't wait around. I'd much rather transfer to the hospital and everything end up fine than risk the health of you or your baby just to stay at home. My transfer rate is right around 8%, but 9 out of 10 of those transfers are completely non-emergent. Most of the time, clients transfer because they need or want an epidural to rest or there's some unknown reason why things aren't progressing and we need a little more assistance than is available to us otherwise.

In the event you do have to transfer, I will facilitate as smooth of a transition as possible and continue supporting you as best I can. I will call the accepting hospital ahead of time to alert them of the transfer situation and fax all records to them. Once you are discharged from the hospital, I can generally resume the six weeks of postpartum care for you and your baby as planned. I work hard to establish a cooperative working relationship with the labor & delivery staff at local hospitals to help ensure you receive respectful treatment and care. In an urgent transfer, we will transfer to the closest facility to your home. In a non-emergent transfer, we can transfer to the local hospital of your choice.

ADDITIONAL SERVICES

In addition to midwifery care, I also offer services including placenta encapsulation, intrauterine insemination for clients and training and consulting for both students and providers.

"I can't say enough good things about Brittany! She was supportive of me throughout my entire pregnancy and supported my 2vba3c birth. I struggled with anxiety throughout my pregnancy and she was always compassionate and never dismissive of what I was dealing with. Births don't always go to plan, but Brittany respected all of my preferences for how I wished my birth to go and went out of her way to make sure I felt supported and heard throughout my labor and delivery. My baby had a shoulder dystocia and Brittany was skilled at getting her out quickly and safely. We had the most beautiful and peaceful birth and I couldn't have asked for anything better."
